Biography
This page is about the man himself!
The life of the best damn executive transvestite and comedian this world has ever seen!
To all the dreamers-
may their dreams come true
Eddie was born in Yemen on 7th February 1962, the youngest son of John and Ella Izzard. In 1963, the Izzards moved to Northern Ireland. Some of Eddie’s happiest childhood memories were from here.
Then, in ’67, they moved to South Wales but unfortunately, a year later, Eddie’s mum died. So, at the age of six, Eddie and his brother, Mark started boarding school. They stayed in Wales another year and then moved to Bexhill. Again, Eddie went to boarding school, where he developed a interest in sport. He also learned how to play the clarinet!
Before his comedy career, Eddie wanted to be in the army and he took a degree in 'Accountancy and Finanical Management with Mathematics' at Sheffield university, which he did not finish.
Eddie’s career started with trying to get into school plays. Hungary for fame, Eddie started on his way down the road of fame, with the Edinburgh Festival and street performing.
After a lot of hard work, things took a turn for the better when, in 1991, he was nominated for a Pierre Award at the Edinburgh Festival and a Time Out award.
In 1993, Eddie took his show to the Ambassadors Theatre in the West End, which ran for 13 weeks. He then took this show around Britain followed by another run at the West End, and then the video Live at the Ambassadors was released in December 1993.
Eddie then turned his talents to acting playing roles in ‘The Cryptogram’, ‘900 Oneonta’ and ‘Edward II’.
The spring of 1995 brought another fabulous Eddie show, Unrepeatable, and he appeared in a live improvisational show ‘One Word Improv’.
At Bexhill-on-Sea, Eddie’s show Definite Article began its world tour in the winter of 1995, which he also took to Paris and did in French.
Eddie managed to find time to squeeze in film and TV roles before moving on and doing his next show, Glorious. Also, he appeared in a Monty Python special 'Live in Aspen'. Eddie wanted to be in Python and his comedy is, in ways, similar.
In 1998, Eddie took America by storm. He took his show ‘Dress to Kill’ to America and did a HBO special. For this show he managed to pick up 2 Emmy Awards along with countless numbers of fans!
